Sporting a freshly revised frontal treatment and interior updates, Citroën’s Ami 8 debuted at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show and went on to enjoy a lengthy production run, with the advent of its successor, the Visa. Powered by the same 602 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine of its predecessor, the Ami 6, the Ami 8 amply demonstrated the soundness and wide development scope of the original 2CV concept of the 1940s. The Ami 8 Break (Wagon) was particularly attractive and in demand, with its production extended an additional model year to 1979, with nearly 49,000 examples of the Ami 8 produced, supplemented by the short-lived Ami Super with an upgraded flat-four engine derived from that of the Citroën GS. International successes included Ami 8 production in Spain and Argentina.
Indicative of the Ami 8’s broad appeal outside France, this example was sold new to a resident of Trissino in the province of Vicenza, Italy. Copies of prior registration paperwork show that this Ami 8 remained in Italy until 2015, when it was acquired by the Mullin Collection.
