In response to Renault’s strong-selling 4CV, Citroën launched the Dyane in January 1968. An update of the venerable but dated 2CV, the Dyane was based on the same chassis as the 2CV and shared its independent suspension, which was ingeniously interconnected front to rear. Power was initially delivered by the proven 602 cc engine from the Ami 6, rated at 28 bhp. Other mechanical features included a front-wheel drivetrain, four-speed gearbox, and rack and pinion steering. Updates for 1970 and 1973 included the addition of rear windows and revised door handles, respectively. Design of the updated Dyane was handed to Citroën subsidiary Panhard, led by Louis Bionier, who developed every Panhard automobile introduced since the late 1920s. While intended to eventually replace the 2CV, the Dyane was discontinued by 1983 with approximately 1,443,500 examples built.

This 1978 Citroën Dyane is a wonderful representative that was sold new to a resident in Vicenza, Italy, according to the Citroën warranty card that accompanies it. The Dyane remained in Italy until 2015, when the Mullin Collection acquired it. In 2017, the Dyane was driven and formed the subject of an Autoweek article by Mark Vaughn, who described its delightful driving experience and unique features. Accompanying the Dyane are previous Italian registration documents, correspondence, maintenance instructions, and a wiring diagram, plus the aforementioned original Citroën warranty card and Autoweek article copy.
