Developed as a no-compromise expression of Mercedes-Benz engineering philosophy, the magnificent 500E stands as one of the great performance sedans of the 1990s, styled under the direction of the brilliant Bruno Sacco. Production of the 500E was famously complex. The bodies were partially assembled by Mercedes-Benz before being transported to Porsche’s Rössle-Bau facility in Zuffenhausen, a low-volume production site formerly used for building the 959, where the drivetrain and suspension components were installed. Finally, each car returned to Sindelfingen to be finished. This process restricted output to just 9,624 examples and contributed to the model’s reputation for exceptional build quality.

Externally, the 500E is distinguished by a widened front and rear track, flared wheel arches, and a lower stance. At its heart lies the naturally aspirated M119 V-8, delivering seamless power and exceptional durability, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes deeply bolstered Recaro seats, a self-leveling hydropneumatic rear suspension for high-speed stability, stiffer anti-roll bars, uprated brakes, a trunk-mounted battery, and a 90-liter fuel tank.

The 500E offered here is finished in Black Pearl Metallic accented by a gray leather interior. It showed a scant 17,108 miles when catalogued. It is accompanied by its manuals in their folio, tool roll, standard eight-spoke road wheels, original data sheet, and CARFAX Vehicle History Report.
