Produced from 1994 through 1998, the Porsche 993 marked the final generation of the air-cooled 911. Introduced for 1996, the Turbo represented the model’s high-performance flagship, combining the familiar character of the air-cooled era with significant advances in technology, refinement, and capability.
Power came from a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six featuring sophisticated electronic engine management and redesigned cylinder heads. Paired with a six-speed manual transaxle and all-wheel drive, the package delivered remarkable performance and all-weather capability. A fixed rear wing provided additional downforce while channeling air to twin intercoolers.
Derived from the 959 supercar, the Turbo’s all-wheel-drive system continuously distributed power to maximize traction, while larger brakes borrowed from the 911 Carrera RS provided exceptional stopping power. The 993 generation also introduced a new multi-link rear suspension, known internally as the LSA system, which greatly improved stability and handling while reducing the lift-off oversteer for which earlier 911s had become known. Combined with the Turbo’s wider bodywork, upgraded aerodynamics, and twin-turbocharged powerplant producing 408 hp, the result was a car capable of supercar performance while remaining comfortable and tractable enough for everyday use.
Among the most advanced high-performance automobiles of its era, the 993 Turbo was capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph in a reported 3.9 seconds while offering exceptional refinement and everyday usability. Summarizing the model’s remarkable breadth of capability, Road & Track wrote in July 1995 that the 993 Turbo was “the quickest and fastest Porsche production car ever,” yet also “among the most civilized and usable highperformance machines Porsche has built.”
Finished in very attractive and relatively uncommon Ocean Blue Metallic over a Classic Grey leather interior, this Porsche 993 Turbo is one of only 612 built for the US market for the 1997 model year and was delivered new via Carlsen Porsche in Palo Alto, California, to venture capitalist Jack M. Gill. In addition to the Turbo’s already high level of standard equipment, additional options included power adjustable hardback sport seats, cruise control, power sunroof, alarm system, Becker CDR-210 radio, and six-disc CD changer.
Mr. Gill retained the Turbo until late 2002, adding just over 2,000 miles during his ownership. The car was then acquired by noted collector James Page before passing to its current collector-owner in November 2004, with approximately 3,600 miles. More than two decades later, it remains in the same long-term stewardship, having been carefully preserved and sparingly driven, showing just 11,229 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.
Accompanying records document regular servicing by respected specialists including Porsche of Huntington, Gulf Performance Center, Porsche Richmond, Euroclassics Porsche, and Lufttechnik. Further supporting the car’s well-maintained history, the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows no accidents or damage reported.
Also included are the owner’s manuals, spare, recent service records, and a Porsche Club of America Shenandoah Region Richmond Porsche Meet participant badge dated 2010.
Combining exceptionally low mileage, long-term ownership, documented history, and one of the most attractive color combinations offered on the 993 Turbo, this well-kept example represents a compelling opportunity to acquire Porsche’s final air-cooled supercar. Revered for its unique blend of performance, usability, and engineering sophistication, the 993 Turbo remains among the most collectible and celebrated 911 variants ever produced.
