Ferrari 550 Maranello, by Bruno Alfieri, Stefano Pasini, and Ippolito Alfieri

Introduced in 1996, the 550 Maranello marked a return to Ferrari’s tradition of front-engine, V-12, two-seat berlinettas. Its arrival recalled the celebrated 365 GTB/4 Daytona while establishing a modern interpretation of the long-distance gran turismo. Beneath Pininfarina’s restrained coachwork lay a 5.5-liter, four-cam V-12 producing 485 hp, paired with a rear-mounted, six-speed manual transaxle. Ferrari had created a car of formidable performance that could also be enjoyed over an entire day’s drive. ‌ More than a quarter-century after its debut, the 550’s appeal rests as much on its character as its performance. Its long hood, compact cabin, and understated proportions place it squarely in the lineage of Ferrari’s classic V-12 GTs. Inside, the driver encounters clear instruments, a gated shift lever, and the unmistakable sound and response of a naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine. The result is a Ferrari that feels both substantial and intimately connected to its driver. ‌ The late-production example offered here is distinguished by an especially attractive factory specification. Finished in black over black leather, it was delivered new through authorized Ferrari dealer Shelton Sports Cars in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its original $229,401 MSRP includes several desirable factory options: carbon fiber interior trim, modular wheels, Daytona-style seats, red brake calipers, and a leather-upholstered rear shelf. The carbon fiber trim alone represented a $7,120 option. Its shift knob, of the style used in the F50, and 18" Speedline modular wheels, associated with the limited-production 550 Barchetta, lend this example a sporting appearance. Against the black bodywork, the red calipers provide a subtle accent, while the Daytona seats and upholstered shelf give the cabin the richness expected of a Ferrari GT. ‌ The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report records the Ferrari’s sale in December 2001 to its original Miami-based owner. Its early years were spent in Florida, where Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale performed numerous services through 2006. Later records place the car in Ohio and New Jersey before its return to Florida. More recently, it has formed part of a Texas-based collection of modern classics. Its substantial service file extends back to 2007 and documents timing-belt services in 2014, 2019, 2022, and 2025. ‌ The current owner reports that the Maranello received more than $30,000 in documented mechanical service during 2025 and 2026. This work included a major service with timing belts, associated pulleys, seals, gaskets, filters, and fluids, followed by substantial attention to the fuel system, clutch hydraulics, brakes, and air-conditioning. Separate records document cosmetic reconditioning, including refurbishment of interior leather and switches, and the installation of four tires. The consignor reports consistent paint-meter readings on the body panels that suggest they retain their original finish. ‌ At the time of cataloguing, the odometer displayed 22,360 miles; the last mileage recorded in the CARFAX Report was 22,039 miles in March 2025. Offered with its window sticker, books and manuals, tool kit, tire inflator, car cover, service records, and CARFAX Report, this Ferrari benefits from an impressive complement of documentation and equipment. ‌ Few modern Ferraris bring together the virtues of the traditional berlinetta so convincingly: handsome Pininfarina styling, a front-mounted V-12, a gated manual gearbox, and the composure to cover great distances with ease. With its striking appearance, ideal factory specification, modest mileage, and recent service, this 550 Maranello offers an inviting opportunity to experience one of the defining Ferrari GTs of its era.
