One of the most famous athletes of his era, Fernand Charron excelled in track and field events, bicycling, horse racing, and automotive competition. He was among the first famous athletes to profit from the endorsement of products related to his fields of expertise. Having spent five years as one-third of the successful partnership that built high-quality automobiles under the name C.G.V., he resigned in 1906 to build cars under the name Charron Limited. His fledgling company managed to survive the war by building vehicles for the French Armed Forces.

Numerous models of various displacements were offered following the company’s emergence from WWI, among them was the Type TC Charronette, the model offered here, from circa 1920. The charming TC model was a four-cylinder-powered light duty automobile of small displacement, commonly referred to as a Voiturette, or small car. Part of the Mullin Collection since at least 2012, this open example, with staggered seating for two, is finished in red with black fenders and features solid disc wheels. This Charron is an outstanding example of a classic French automobile on a diminutive scale, best suited for local journeys, and a testament to Fernand Charron, a man of many talents.
