As early as 1913, the jaunty three-wheeled Morgan had become very popular in France; spurred by a local hero winning a Cyclecar Grand Prix race in one such Morgan at Amiens that year. Following WWI, another victory in a Morgan by a Frenchman, this time at the Circuit de l’Eure, increased their popularity with fans of the sport yet again. Affordable, exhilarating to drive, and incredibly fuel efficient, Morgan had a winning combination.

Brothers Roger and André Darmont, who had been importers of the British Morgans, struck a licensing deal in which they would produce vehicles under the name Darmont Morgan with a mix of Morgan-supplied and French-made components. The partnership saw the production of tens of thousands of Darmont Morgans, and lasted over 15 years, until the outbreak of WWII.

The Darmont Morgan presented here was built circa 1930, and appears today in largely complete, unrestored condition. It was acquired by the Mullin Collection in 2008 as part of the Schlumpf Reserve Collection. A rare example today, and extremely rare in the US, this Darmont Morgan represents an enticing opportunity for any fan of French sports cars.
