‘Chairs and Flares’ Ferrari Dino Owned by Legendary Musician Steve Winwood from New Joins Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions

Single-owner ‘Chairs and Flares’ Ferrari Dino 246 GTS purchased new by famed recording artist Steve Winwood announced for Pebble Beach Auctions this August.

Santa Monica, Calif. (July 13, 2026) – Gooding Christie’s, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, has announced a ‘Chairs and Flares’ Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, owned from new by two-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Steve Winwood, for its 22nd annual Pebble Beach sale this August. This rare example of one of the most desirable mid-century Ferrari models is among early announcements for the highly anticipated Pebble Beach Auctions next month, taking place on Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15 at the Pebble Beach Parc du Concours.

“It is an extraordinary honor to offer this Dino at Pebble Beach,” said David Brynan, Senior Specialist at Gooding Christie’s. “An outstanding one-owner example of the coveted ‘Chairs and Flares’ 246 GTS, this car is made all the more significant by its remarkable provenance, having been owned, driven, and lovingly preserved for 52 years by one of the defining musicians of the era.” "It is a wonderful car, and I believe it should be driven and enjoyed rather than simply kept in storage,” said Steve Winwood. “The time has come for me to pass it on to someone else who can take pleasure in it and create their own memories, just as I have."

Born in Birmingham in 1948, Steve Winwood emerged as a key figure of the 1960s British Invasion, distinguished by his early command of both the keyboard and the guitar. As a member of the Spencer Davis Group, he released a number of globally acclaimed recordings, including “Gimme Some Lovin’” and “I’m a Man.” In 1967, Winwood co-founded Traffic, whose work introduced an exploratory synthesis of rock, jazz, and folk, notably with Dear Mr. Fantasy and John Barleycorn Must Die. He was also a key member of Blind Faith, whose 1969 self-titled album ranks among the most important outcomes as one of the era’s earliest supergroup productions. By the early 1970s, Winwood had secured himself a reputation for considerable musical range, encompassing performance, composition, and production. His music continued to captivate global attention for years to come, as with Back in the High Life (1986), his fourth solo album that garnered countless awards for hit songs, including “Higher Love.”

Gooding Christie’s is delighted to present this single-owner 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (Estimate: $750,000 – $1,000,000), chassis 06698, owned by Steve Winwood from new. This right-hand-drive E-series Dino is one of only five ‘Chairs and Flares’ examples delivered new to the UK, and uniquely the sole example originally specified in the period color of Nocciola Metallizzato (Metallic Hazelnut) over black upholstery. It was also the only such Dino 246 GTS to be delivered to the UK in its particular specification including wider Campagnolo wheels and Daytona seat inserts. Purchased directly from Sytner of Mapperley in Nottingham, Great Britain, via the official UK importer Maranello Concessionaires Ltd., this ultra-desirable 246 GTS has remained with Winwood for over 50 years. Approximately two decades ago, Winwood commissioned a restoration by noted Ferrari specialist Bob Houghton, refinishing the car in its present dark blue livery with tan leather upholstery. Today, this remarkable offering comes to auction with a thorough history, having been documented by marque experts Tony Willis and Matthias Bartz.
