Four highly collectible Vintage Bentleys presented from The Timeless Collection, including a 1928 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Sports Tourer and a 1932 Bentley 8 Litre Sports Saloon, are announced for the auction house’s London sale.

Santa Monica, Calif. (3 August 2022) — Gooding & Company, the leading international auction house renowned for presenting the world’s finest automobiles, will offer a selection of spectacular Vintage Bentleys from The Timeless Collection this summer. On 3 September 2022, the official auction partner and sponsor of the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace will present these cars, alongside a roster of other exceptional classic and collectible automobiles, to the global market. Today, the company unveiled the comprehensive catalogue for the sale on its website. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the company for specific inquiries regarding the lots presented at the upcoming auction.

“We take great care in curating a selection of offerings tailored to each of our auction venues, and this year, we’ve compiled a superb grouping of largely English and European motoring classics for our much anticipated London Auction,” said Gooding & Company President and Founder, David Gooding. “The lasting elegance and unparalleled quality of the Vintage Bentleys presented at this sale, particularly those from The Timeless Collection, are a great testament to the very essence of a Gooding & Company auction; they encompass all the elements which make a vehicle a true collectible. I am eager to present these Bentleys, along with the rest of our prized lots, and meet their new custodians come this September.”

The Timeless Collection Gooding & Company is proud to present The Timeless Collection comprised of four historic and exceptionally well preserved Vintage Bentleys at its London Auction, coming to market from the custodianship of a highly respected European collector. Leading the collection is a 1928 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Sports Tourer (Estimate: £1,200,000–£1,500,000) featuring quintessential Vanden Plas Sports Tourer coachwork with a dashing appearance and lovely patina. One of only 667 examples built of the 4 1/2 Litre model, this example, chassis TX3235, is an ideal candidate for vintage rallies and tours, and retains its original chassis, engine, and coachwork per copies of factory documentation on file.

The Timeless Collection also includes a 1932 Bentley Eight Litre Sports Saloon (Estimate: £900,000–£1,200,000) coming to market with an excellent provenance consisting of dedicated owners and collectors throughout nearly a full century. Featuring coachwork by H.J. Mulliner, this example, chassis YX5110, was one of only 100 Eight Litre Bentleys built, the very final model produced under W.O. Bentley. In the early 1970s, a careful restoration of YX5110 was commissioned by then-owner, Peter Agg. Since then, this exceptionally preserved Eight Litre Sports Saloon has maintained its outstanding integrity and aura of grandeur and luxury.

Also on offer from The Timeless Collection is a 1932 Bentley Eight Litre Sports Tourer (Estimate: £750,000–£1,000,000) maintained with phenomenal attention to detail and presented in its stunning colors of traditional British racing green with a matching green hide interior and a black canvas hood. An outright supercar in its day, chassis YM5036 is configured for optimal performance with a short wheelbase chassis and Le Mans tourer coachwork built in the style of Vanden Plas. The final offering from the collection is a highly attractive, well-preserved 1929 Bentley Speed Six Sports Saloon (Estimate: £700,000–£900,000) wearing its original sporting coachwork by Freestone & Webb. One of just 182 Speed Six chassis built, this exceptionally important and original example, chassis FR2644, is eligible for a wide array of concours and vintage tours.

Additional Offerings from the London Auction In addition to The Timeless Collection of Vintage Bentleys, Gooding & Company’s London Auction features more significant and classic offerings from the esteemed British marque among its stellar lineup for the upcoming event. This includes an early production, original right-hand drive 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback (Estimate: £625,000 – £725,000) finished in the factory colors of Dark Green over Beige Connolly leather upholstery. This influential postwar grand touring icon was notably displayed on the Rolls-Royce and Bentley stand at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1953. Another offering is a 1926 Bentley 3 Litre Speed Model Boattail (Estimate: £250,000 – £350,000), one of 513 desirable Speed models built and the only known example fitted with its sporting Vanden Plas body style. Presented in its stunning original colors of ivory and brown, this highly unique example has previously been part of the Cunningham, Collier, and Bruce McCaw Collections, and comes to auction with a fascinating history file researched by Bentley expert Dr. Tim Houlding. Lastly, the auction will also feature a 1962 Bentley S2 Continental Two-Door Saloon (Estimate: £250,000 – £325,000, Without Reserve) wearing coachwork by H.J. Mulliner and beautifully presented in dark blue over blue leather upholstery. With a well-preserved older restoration by marque specialist P & A Wood, this example, chassis BC87CZ, is a beautiful and exclusive Bentley coupe for aficionados of opulent British motorcars.
