Among the most exclusive and expensive automobiles of the postwar era, the Mercedes-Benz 300 S Coupe was conceived as a grand touring car for heads of state and aristocracy, and hand-built in remarkably limited numbers. Delivered new on August 15, 1953, this 300 S was finished in elegant Silver Grey over a Blue leather interior and specified with instruments in English, sealed-beam lighting, a Becker Nürburg radio with Hirschmann antenna, and a bespoke fitted luggage set. Today, the car retains its original interior, fitted luggage, and original tool kit, only deviating from original finishes with a single exterior repaint under current ownership, remaining mechanically preserved but never subject to a complete restoration.
The first owner, an American connoisseur, took delivery of this 300 S in Germany, keeping the car in Europe to enjoy during regular business travel abroad. In 1961, the car was finally imported to the US, where it remained in his loving care for more than three decades. In the 1990s, the car was acquired by a prominent American collection, whose stewardship continues to this day. Showing just over 35,000 miles, it remains a remarkably original and carefully preserved two-owner example. Combining extraordinary originality and distinguished long-term ownership, this beautifully preserved 300 S Coupe represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Mercedes-Benz’s most elegant and exclusive postwar grand touring automobiles.
