The BMW R60/2 debuted in 1960. It featured a horizontally opposed boxer engine and shaft drive, a traditional BMW configuration that dates back to the company’s first motorcycle, the R32 of 1923. Like their road car offerings, BMW’s motorcycles were known for both reliability and performance, and the R60 was a spectacular showcase of the brand’s capabilities. The model proved a tremendous success, with strong demand dictating production of multiple variants through 1969. Admired by enthusiasts for their build and touring qualities, these BMW motorcycles remain popular with collectors today.
Introduced in 1968 as a model built specifically for the US market, the R60 US was distinguished by its telescopic front fork and taller handlebars, making for even more comfortable touring use. Finished in Avus Black and retaining matching frame and engine numbers, this R60US is a rare, limited production model from the end of a glorious era in BMW history.
