Long before we changed the automotive auction industry by setting new world-record prices, producing unmatched events, and consigning the world’s most prized collector cars, we were guided by one principle: “quality is our style.” For our team, our north star is integrity– as stewards for their heirloom collector cars, and as trusted custodians for our clients and their families.
Our team prides itself on our innovative marketing methods. Our content promotes consignments through artful online, digital, and print mediums. We have perfected the craft of pairing all consignments with the most valuable interested bidders. David Gooding started Gooding & Company in 2003 with corporate auction house expertise and a hope to present cars “carefully, authentically and with distinction and transparency.” Since then, Gooding & Company has had the accolade of presenting cars from the world’s finest collections to their next devoted owners.
In 2022, Gooding & Company carried on its legacy of raising the market to a higher standard. At its 18th annual Pebble Beach Auctions, the company realized a sale total of $109 million. With 28 lots selling for over $1,000,000, the auction house indubitably stunned the collector car world once again, redefining the very parameters of the market itself.
The most notable sale of the week was the 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante, which amassed an impressive figure of $10,345,000. Gooding & Company also offered several top-of-the-line, ultra-desirable modern supercars including an incredibly well-preserved, 1990 Ferrari F40, which sold for or $3,965,000 (a world record for the model), as well as the 1994 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport, which sold for $3,167,500 (also a world record for the model).
Gooding & Company garnered worldwide attention from its recent auction in the UK, the London Auction held in conjunction with the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace. This auction achieved top sell-through rates, culminating in over £22 million sold and multiple world records established. The top sales of the event were for a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione, and a new world record price set for a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ.
Ultimately, Gooding & Company’s strong relationships with our clientele are what matters most. Our auction executives and specialists maintain a highly cultivated network of contacts, allowing us access to a wide pool of interested buyers and sellers for any consignment we may bring to market. We always keep abreast of how the market moves, monitoring transactions, trends, and shifts in order to consistently stay one step ahead in a dynamic and competitive global arena.
David Gooding says his business model has dovetailed perfectly with his passion for classic and collector automobiles: “What I love is discovering the special cars, whether it’s a $50,000 car or a $15 million car, and really accentuating the characteristics of the car and presenting them to our clients,” he says. “This is what we do. It’s what we know best and what we love doing.”
