Following an 18-year hiatus in North America, Land Rover made a long-awaited return in 1993 with the Defender 110, which was soon succeeded by the shorterwheelbase Defender 90 for 1994. Official NAS (North American Specification) importation was in limited quantities for 1994, 1995, and 1997 only. Considered the last “real” Land Rovers by many, the Defender 90 remains in fierce demand with its iconic looks, aluminum body, short wheelbase, solid-axle drivetrain, and amazing “go-anywhere” capability. Fewer than 7,000 were imported into the US, and the final 1997 models are considered the best with their upgraded 4.0-liter V-8 and electronic ZF four-speed automatic transmission.
Benefiting handsomely from attentive single ownership and maintenance from authorized Land Rover dealers and marque specialists since new, this 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 features excellent British Racing Green Metallic and Slate Grey vinyl livery. Initially based in the San Francisco Bay area and latterly in Colorado, it features desirable accessories including the front winch, brush bar, running boards, rear lamp guards, and trailer hitch. Subsequent upgrades include an alarm system, dealer-installed removable hardtop, performance catalytic converter, and suspension lift.
In addition to the original warranty card and CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this immensely desirable, highly equipped, and enjoyable 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 is accompanied by detailed service records from new and stands as an unqualified icon.
